The idea of the project was to involve only Bulgarian citizens. In 1941 Bourgas Airport was redeployed back to Bulgaria. The beginning of the Sofia-Bourgas line was given in 1947, when the first Bulgarian passenger jet Junkers Ju 52/3m was grounded. During the next 10 years, the base is being expanded and modernized, followed by constructing a concrete track. The year is 1970 and Burgas Airport becomes international, with airplanes from over 45 different destinations begin landing and departing from it.
